Paul Cater Deaton When Paul Cater Deaton says that his business is 'going under', he says it with a huge grin on his face. He calls the sea his studio, and has been making much of his living behind the lenses of underwater camera systems for several years. Paul has been in the film/television production industry since 1978. An award-winning Writer/Producer/Director/Cameraman, Deaton relocated to the Virgin Islands in 1992, after cultivating his filmmaking talents in Austin, Texas. "I began as a 'private' and worked my way to 'general' in this business," says Deaton of his rise to acclaim as a filmmaker. He is highly sought-after in his field, and engages in productions ranging from commercials and music videos to TV programs and full-length motion pictures. Paul's credits include ABC, NBC, MTV, CBS, PBS, HBO, Fox, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Tri-Star, Veronica Broadcasting (Netherlands), ARD German Television, Caribbean Broadcasting Union, the Travel Channel, Comedy Central and the United Nations. He has won several awards for promotional videos produced for such resorts and dive operations as Captain Don's Habitat (Bonaire), Saba Deep, Captain's Quarters (Saba), and Habitat Curacao. Other creations include those for Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, St. Thomas Diving Club, and Cabrits Dive Centre, of Dominica. He recently produced, directed and shot a national commercial for Island Guide Vacations (USA). An international commercial for tourism for the Commomwealth of Dominica is in production now. Deaton is currently developing a television series relative to SCUBA diving and adventure travel on the Caribbean Sea. Episodes on St. Thomas, Saba, Bonaire, Curacao and the wreck of RMS Rhone have already been completed, as have two episodes on Dominica. Shoots on Anegada, Bequia, Belize, the Turks & Caicos and Roatan are in pre-production. In April, he travels to shoot underwater in the Red Sea, and land-based operations in Egypt and the Sinai. In July, he and daughter Noelle will travel to Australia to shoot the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef as part of a production for a respected liveaboard dive operator. Paul Cater Deaton is a NAUI Instructor, and a member of the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association, Divers Alert Network and Rotary International. He is a popular lecturer, and screens his productions at film festivals and dive shows from coast to coast to coast. His "Lights! Camera! Ocean!" workshop on underwater production techniques is a favourite among both neophyte and veteran shooters. His films have found audiences worldwide, and his writings have been published internationally. His fully digital production facility, The Deaton Studio, is based on St. Thomas, in the Virgin islands. "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover!" - Mark Twain
Paul invites your inquiries and comments, and would love to make a production to meet your needs.
